To beat the heat, a new social venture has created Eco-Cooler – a DIY cooling system consisting of used plastic bottles and a piece of cardboard that fits in any window.
DIY aircon uses old plastic bottles – and is already being in used in 25,000 Indian homes. Eco-Cooler decrease temperatures by at least 9 degrees Fahrenheit
This DIY device is mounted on a board, with bottleneck-sized holes cut in a grid pattern — no electricity required.
Grameen Intel, a social business information technology, teamed up with the adverting agency Grey Dhaka to develop this project.
The steps to follow include;
- Grab a piece of a heavy duty cardboard and trim it to fit the window of your choice.
- Cut holes in a grid pattern that are large enough for a bottle neck, but be sure the cuts are spaced out according to the size of the bottle.
